NCAA Regional Qualifying Fix

NCAA Regional Qualifying Fix

Propose a change to NCAA Regional Qualifying to address current issues
Effective Date: August 2020

Qualification to Preliminary Round (NCAA First Round)
o Top 25 teams qualify for “NCAA First Round” formerly known as Regionals based on regular season RPI (including conference competition).
o Conference Champs not part of that number can be incorporated as well.
o Top 2 teams at each “NCAA First Round” Auto-Qualify to NCAA Finals.
o Remaining top #3-8 teams at each region are eligible for national at-large places (19-30) based on RPI that includes “First Round” and push rule still exists but not past top (#8) cutoff.
o A provision for individual qualifiers can also be incorporated similar to current system.

Location of Preliminary Round
o Based on nine current geographical regions.

Regions stay where they are, hosts that have invested in course development can continue to host, sites are already lined up, more courses can be developed.
