Electronic Video Usage

Purpose: Allowing the use of video equipment for the use by coaches to assist student-athletes.

Rule 4 Article 20

(remove the word Coaches), athletes, competitors and officials shall not use video or audio devices, radio transmitter or receivers, mobile phones, computers, unmanned aerial systems (i.e. drones) or any similar devices in the competition area, except authorized by the games committee.

Coaches shall not use audio devices, radio transmitter or receivers, mobile phones, computers, unmanned aerial systems (i.e. drones) or any similar devices in the competition area, except authorized by the games committee.

A coach may use a video recording device {i.e. mobile phone (for video use only), iPad, or other recording device} to record an athlete’s or competitor’s performance for teaching, safety or coaching purposes unless otherwise prohibited by the games committee.

Coaches may make such video recordings from a designated “coaching box” and may review the video with the athlete or competitor provided the sharing of the video does not obstruct or interfere with the progress of any event and can be done safely.

Should the athlete or coach obstruct or interfere with the progress of the event or meet, the event referee shall issue the offending coach and athlete a warning. A second offense shall result in the athlete being assessed a foul on the next attempt. Should the athlete have no attempts left, the referee may assess the athlete a foul or miss on the previous attempt. The coach shall also be removed from the competition area/coaching box and required to sit in the area designated for spectators.
