Division I Cross Country Championship Realignment

New Cross Country Region Alignment:
Realign and reduce the Regions to 5, based on NCAA division 1 conferences

Western-(PAC 12, West Coast Conference, Big Sky, Big West, WAC)
Central-(Big 12, Mtn West, MVC, CUSA, Southland, Summit, SWAC)
Great Lakes-(Big 10, IVY, MAC, Big East, Horizon, Northeast)
Southern-(SEC, American, OVC, Southern, ASUN, Sun Belt, Big South)
Eastern-(ACC, A10, American East, Patriot, Colonial, MAAC, MEAC)

Qualifying for the Region Championships:
Each conference is given an average CCRI (Cross Country Rating Index) score based on the CCRI’s of the conferences teams the week before conference championship weekend. Those conference average CCRI’s determine how many automatic qualifying teams each conference has. Except the Power 5 conferences (PAC 12, BIG 12, BIG 10, ACC, SEC) which are given an automatic 8 qualifying teams. These CCRI averages also determine the number of qualifying individuals for the region championships out of each conference (individuals not on a qualifying team).

At large selection for the Region Championships:
Using the CCRI ratings following the conference championship weekend, the 5 highest CCRI rated teams not already in a region championship are awarded an at large selection to their respective Region Championships.

Qualifying for the National Championships at Region Championships:
The top 6 teams at each region championship are automatically qualified for the National Championships. (5 regions x 6 teams =30 teams)

At large selection for the National Championships:
Using the CCRI ratings following the Region Championship weekend, the 2 highest CCRI rated teams not already in the National championships are awarded an at large selection to the National Championships.

Individuals Qualifying for the National Championships at Region Championships:
The top 6 individuals at each region championship not on a qualifying team, will qualify for the National Championships.
