Job Description

 

The Assistant men’s and women’s Track and Field /Cross Country Coach supports the head coach in all aspects of the NCAA D-III Track and Field/ Cross Country programs. This includes the recruitment of student-athletes, coaching emphasis in track and field in the jumps, high hurdles and short sprints, student athlete mentorship, fostering a positive team culture aligned with the college’s academic and athletic mission.

Essential Departmental Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in planning, development, and direction of all team training and conditioning activities at a level that will improve the Track and Field/Cross Country program’s position of competitive leadership in the North Coast Athletic Conference and the NCAA Division III.
  • Supports recruiting academically and athletically strong applicants for the selective and competitive applicant pool at The College of Wooster in partnership with the Office of Admissions.
  • In partnership with the Office of Advancement, assists the Head Coach in developing and maintaining a strong alumni and parent support system and assists with fundraising efforts.
  • Perform administrative operations including budgeting, social media team travel, room reservations, meals, and equipment procurement (in coordination with Purchasing).
  • Engages team members in community service activities.
  • Fulfills additional duties in teaching, committee work, and administration as determined annually by director of athletics.
  • All coaches may be assigned additional duties in the area of facility and game management as determined annually by the director of athletics.
  • Develops meaningful connections with students, staff and faculty by being available and visible on campus.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • One to two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience; knowledge and understanding of the sport.
  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes
  • Proven prior success in coaching the jumps, high hurdles and short sprints preferred.
    CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification is required (and can be completed after hire)

  • Skill in solving practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Basic Word/Excel and ability to learn and operate recruiting software.
