Job Description

The Oberlin College Department of Athletics and Physical Education invites applications for the position of Assistant Coach of Men’s and Women’s Track and Field. This is a full-time, twelve-month Administrative and Professional Staff position with benefits, reporting to the Director of Athletics and Physical Education and the Head Coach of Track and Field.

This position will be responsible for assisting the Head Coach of Track and Field in all aspects of coaching, recruiting and administering the men’s and women’s track and field program. Specific responsibilities, include, but are not limited to: (1) assistant coaching of sprints and hurdles; (2) assist with the development of team strategy and analyze performance of student athletes; (3) assist in planning and coordinating meet and practice schedule; (4) assist in fundraising activities to subsidize the track and field program (may assist in marketing and public relations activities to promote the program); (5) scouting and recruiting; (6) counseling and advising; (7) conditioning and strength training; (8) assist in departmental tasks including building supervision; (9) teach fitness classes; and (10) perform related duties as assigned.

Required qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, two to four years coaching and/or relevant competitive experience; solid administrative and technological skills (experience operating FinishLynx/meet management software is preferred), and the ability to motivate staff and volunteers to achieve administrative goals; excellent written and oral communication skills; basic familiarity, appreciation and empathy with the role of intercollegiate athletics and its relationship to the College, and the capacity to articulate that role and interact comfortably with those individuals and constituency groups (student-athletes, alumni, coaches, parents, etc.) crucial to the advancement of athletics at Oberlin; high motivation with a capacity for independent work within the context of an intensely goal-oriented environment.
