Job Description

General Description of Duties:

  1. Knowledge and ability to effectively coach a variety of events / event-groups.
  2. Assist Head Coach with recruiting coordination. The successful candidate will understand and comply with NCAA rules, be able to maintain a team depth-chart for each event-group, identify and contact viable prospective student-athletes in accordance with team needs and help to coordinate unofficial and official visits under the supervision of the Head Coach and Compliance Officer. (30%)
  3. Assist Head Coach with team operations (administrative work, travel planning, team management). (15%)
  4. Ability to manage team social media accounts
    a. Must be able to adhere to UWG Athletics social media policy
    b. Ability to work closely with UWG Sports Information, providing images and content to be shared with UWGSports.com and team social media accounts preferred (15%)
  5. Help monitor academic success of student athletes.
    a. Help manage academic oversight for marginal students in conjunction with the Academic Resource office.
    b. Help in arranging general academic support – particularly to freshmen and new transfer students (20%)
  6. Must have a good understanding of the discipline(s) and strategies across the spectrum of our programs (cross country and track & field) in order to:
    a. Design and execute various practice sessions
    i. Must be able to design and lead practice sessions across a variety of event-groups
    ii. Gather and evaluate relevant data on athlete’s performance
    b. Must have good organizational skills and the ability to learn and adhere to the general coaching philosophies of the UWG Track / Cross Country programs (20%)
  7. Must have, or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license and pass the UWG driver’s course in order to be eligible to drive for the program(s)
  8. High level of fitness must be maintained in order to be physically able to perform strenuous activities required for practices and competitions.
    a. Ability to lift and move equipment, push equipment carts, load and help to carry items such as team tents, supplies and equipment (pole vault poles, throwing implements etc.).
    b. Ability to work for extended periods of time at practices and meets
  9. Must have good computer skills.
  10. Familiarity with NCAA regulation and ability to pass the NCAA D-II recruiting test preferred
  11. Excellent communication skills preferred

Description of Specific Position(s) to Be Filled:

  1. Track & Field – Speed/Power Assistant
    a. Position reports to Head Coach Ryan Bailey
    b. The successful candidate will work directly with the Head Coach on a daily basis
    i. Specific knowledge of and at least two years of collegiate coaching experience in both horizontal and vertical jumps required
    ii. Broad ability to effectively coach within the sprints/hurdles/relays event-group required
    iii. Knowledge and experience related to NCAA rules and regulations highly preferred
    c. Experience with meet organization / meet management preferred
    d. Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
    e. Other tasks will be assigned as needed
    f. Bachelor’s or higher degree in Sport Science, or related field, or equivalent experience required.
    g. USATF or USTFCCA certification(s) for Jumps and sprints/hurdles/relays preferred
