Job Description

The University of Charleston is located in Charleston, WV. The university is surrounded by the beautiful Appalachian Mountains and on the Kanawha River across from the WV State Capitol. The school has approximately 2,400 graduate and undergraduate students that attend Charleston.

The Golden Eagles compete in NCAA Division II and the Mountain East Conference.
Charleston finished 7th in the Learfield Director’s Cup during the 2023-2024 season. The school has a tremendous history of athletics and academic success.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree from a 4 year accredited university or college
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • 3 years of college coaching experience in the area of sprints, jumps or hurdles
  • Must possess or obtain a valid driver’s license
  • Must be certified in CPR/First Aid
  • Requires basic computer skills and experience
  • Knowledge of working nights and weekends for meets, recruiting and other tasks assigned by the head coach.
  • Ability to act with honesty and sportsmanship at all times so that intercollegiate athletics as a whole, the university and student-athletes.
  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
  • Ability to successfully recruit and retain student athletes
  • Being able to deal effectively with students, faculty, staff, and general public both in person and over the telephone

Responsibilities

  • Responsible to assist with the management of a competitive NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Track & Field programs; assists with conditioning, practices, recruiting, and travel arrangements
  • This role supports the activities to assist the Men’s & Women’s Track and Field and Cross-Country program in the areas of sprints, jumps, hurdles, throws, and in the multi-events
  • Critical role is supporting the development of each student-athlete as a person, student, athlete and community.
  • Assists in executing a successful program that would include duties such as: conducting regular team and individual practice sessions; coaching the student athletes, evaluating athletes’ performance in practice and competition; monitoring the conditioning and training of student athletes.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and MEC rules and a commitment to compliance
  • Arranges and conducts recruiting functions including off- and on-campus visits, evaluations and contacts of prospective student-athletes
  • Performs administrative tasks such as meet management, budgeting and ordering training equipment.
