Job Description Summary:
Under general supervision, oversees all throwing events under guidelines of the ACC and NCAA.
Essential Functions:
- Promotes the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program, to include adhering to all departmental policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, the Atlantic Coast Conference, and the NCAA.
- Assists head coach in coaching student-athletes in throwing events and improving leadership and instruction in areas of deficiency as required.
- Assists head coach in making and strengthening team policy to foster strong team culture.
- Advises and counsels with student-athletes in cross country and track and field regarding obligations to comply with all University, ACC, and NCAA rules and regulations related to financial aid and eligibility, as well as personal conduct and appearance.
- Assists head coach in monitoring conditioning and training of student-athletes in conjunction with the strength and conditioning coach and athletic training staff. Assists with planning and administers the off-season training program as requested.
- Assists head coach in counseling team members in academic, disciplinary, and personal matters, to include consulting with Student Services personnel and other university administrators to resolve problems.
- Assists with the development of competitive schedules as assigned, to include interfacing with both departmental and university administrators as needed.
- Assists in maintaining statistics, as requested.
- Represents department at professional, civic, charitable and alumni events as requested.
- Performs other related duties and assists with special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, with a minimum of one year of experience directly related to duties and responsibilities specified, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Ability to lead and guide Division I student-athletes in area of specialty.
- Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
- Knowledge of athletic recruitment methods and techniques.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Ability to foster a cooperative environment.
- Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Valid driver license with good driving record; must be insurable.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
- USATF level I and II
