Job Summary:
The Assistant Track & Field Coach supports the Director and Head Coach and Track & Field program as it relates to day-to-day management, development of a roster, the recruitment of student-athletes, and the retention of the members of the program. The individual may be required to work without supervision or assistance and must be able to work on their own. The Assistant Coach will demonstrate a strong commitment to the development of the interpersonal relationships required of the position and to the philosophy and goals of Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) and the EMU Athletics Department.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist in the daily operations of the program
- Assist in the development of a comprehensive recruiting plan for the track and field program
- Recruit prospective athletes that fit the mission and culture of the program and the University
- Organize and conduct on field coaching during practice and meets
- Assist with administrative duties such as budgeting, scheduling, travel, equipment management, and inventory management
- Assist with field and facility maintenance
- Assist with program fundraising initiatives
- Assist with program community service opportunities
- Assist with program marketing and branding on social media
- Assist with uniform maintenance and laundry
- Assist in the development of camps for the recruitment of student-athletes
- Provide mentoring and support for student-athletes regarding academics, player, and leadership development
- Comply with all NCAA, conference, and university policies and regulations
- Secondary duties as assigned by the athletic department

- Working knowledge of new technology initiatives
- Knowledge of and/or a capacity to learn current skill methodologies for shot, discus, javelin, and hammer events.
- Basic competency in Microsoft Office applications and Google Suite required and/or a willingness and ability to learn and use these digital work, scheduling, and filing systems required
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred (experience and proven expertise will be considered)
- Prior college or 2-4 years of high school coaching experience required
- College playing experience is preferred
- Preference will be given to candidates with prior recruiting experience
- Preference will be given to candidates with a successful record of developing throwers
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the University’s insurance
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification is preferred at the time of application, and required as a condition of employment
