Job Description
Montgomery College, Rockville, is currently accepting applications for possible openings as a part-time faculty member as an Assistant Track and field Coach. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated coach who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining a respected NJCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Track & Field program.
  • d
  • Assisted in providing leadership and mentorship to student-athletes.
  • Assisting with establishing team and individual goals.
  • Assisting with promoting and monitoring the physical, emotional and social welfare of student-athletes.
  • Assist with the team’s social media presence and marketing.
  • Assisting with recruiting quality student-athletes by means of personal contact and correspondence, evaluating ability in person or by videotape, and through on-campus visits.
  • Assisting with planning and implementing in-season conditioning and practices, evaluating team and individual performance.
  • Prepare and conduct off-season conditioning, practice, and other related activities.
  • Monitor and promote student-athlete academic progress and success under Athletic department academic policies.
  • Assisting with scheduling practices.
  • Assist with Track & Field clinics and camps.
  • Work effectively with administrators, faculty, staff, parents, and alumni.
  • Work non-traditional hours.

Essential Functions:

  1. assist with the development of student-athletes both in the classroom and on the field by providing leadership, mentorship, and instruction;
  2. assist within and off-season conditioning and practices;
  3. assist with monitoring academic performance (study hall, progress reports, attendance, academic meetings, etc.) and pursue strategies to address any outstanding issues;
  4. assist with game coordination and travel logistics,
  5. comply with the Coaches Handbook, the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Constitution and Bylaws, and any intercollegiate athletic conference requirements, including the MDJUCO Athletic Conference; and (g) other duties as determined by the Athletic Director;
  6. Other duties are assigned by the head athletic coach.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of College and High School Track coaching experience
  • Track Coaching license and certification, one of the following:
    – U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA)
    – U.S. Association of Track and Field (USATF)
    – National Federation of State High School (NFHS) Association courses
  • Knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations.
  • Experience training or instructing student-athletes.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in team management.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent written and oral communication skills
  • CPR certification.
  • Good driving record.
  • Criminal background clearance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours.
  • Preferred coach positions: Distance, Horizontal events, and/or Throws.
  • The positions would help train athletes to focus on throwing, distance, and horizontal events. Responsibilities include but are not limited to helping create workout sessions, coordinating strength training workouts with the team strength coach, coordinating competition plans and entries with the Head Coach, and assisting with recruiting student-athletes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and a commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus)*. Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, college listservs, and other faculty communications tools. *If you do not have access to a personal computer, please notify the department chair during the interview. Subject to available funds, the college may be able to provide temporary access to resources.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without a sponsor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior collegiate Track and Field coaching.
  • Track and Field Coaching Certification and/or Licenses.
  • As a condition of employment, the following are required at the time of hire:
  1. Successful completion of a background check and degree verification (if applicable).
  2. You must provide US degree equivalency verified by a nationally recognized credential evaluation service for international degrees.
