Position Overview:
Southwestern University has an immediate opening for a Assistant Track & Field Coach. This position
will report to the Head Track & Field Coach. The Assistant Track & Field Coach is responsible for
supporting the comprehensive development of student-athletes through effective coaching, mentorship,
and leadership. This position will contribute to the overall success of a competitive athletics program by
providing expert guidance in training, recruitment, and student-athlete development. This is a full-time,
12-month, exempt position eligible for our comprehensive benefits program.
Essential Duties:
– Deliver high-quality skill instruction and conditioning programs aligned with the standards of a
successful NCAA Division III track & field program.
– Identify, recruit, and retain student-athletes who demonstrate both athletic talent and academic
excellence to thrive at SU.
– Actively participate in fundraising initiatives that support the goals and needs of the track & field
program.
– Ensure adherence to all institutional, conference, and NCAA rules, regulations, and policies. Serve
as a positive role model and mentor, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and high ethical
standards. Support classroom excellent by utilizing all available university resources in support of
students.
Additional Duties:
– Serve as an Administrator in Charge (AIC) for designated athletic events throughout the year.
– Contribute to campus life by participating in university committees as assigned.
– Teach courses in ESS FRA, if appropriately qualified.
– Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
– Proven experience in coaching and ability to demonstrate proper techniques unique to the sport
– CPR and First Aid or a willingness to become certified within three months of hire
– Have knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of cultural differences and the diversity within the
campus and community.
Preferred Qualifications:
– Collegiate or professional playing experience in the sport
– Experience in recruiting college-level varsity athletes
Starting annual salary: The final offer for the successful candidate will be commensurate
with experience and may exceed the starting salary.
