Job Description

 

The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in all essential functions. As an assistant coach, the incumbent will act as a mentor to athletes on the team providing guidance and advice in the areas of academics, athletics, and personal development. The incumbent will need to be provide a safe, dynamic environment in which the student athletes can learn.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Other duties may be assigned.

Assistant Coach

  • Assists in recruiting student-athletes to meet roster and recruitment goals.
  • Adheres to NAIA policies and regulations and is able to articulate those to student-athletes, recruits, parents, and media.
  • Assists with organizing pre-meet and meet arrangements, for example, equipment, facilities, officials, meet/bench personnel, etc.
  • Assists the head coach to coach the team during meets and practices in an atmosphere of respect for all persons and acknowledges the values and mission of the university. Primary coaching responsibilities are Men’s & Women’s Cross Country and Distance Events.
  • Assists with fundraising and general sports promotion for athletic department and university.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Extensive knowledge of the sports of cross country and track and field.
  • Previous coaching and recruiting experience preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exits. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
