Summary:
The Assistant Cross Country and Track Coach supports the Head Coach in the development, management, and leadership of a competitive NCAA Division II intercollegiate cross country and track and field program. This position requires a dynamic, detail-oriented, and motivated individual with a strong commitment to the academic and athletic success of student-athletes. The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the program, including coaching, recruiting, travel coordination, compliance, and fostering a positive team culture aligned with the values of the College, Conference Carolinas, and the NCAA.
Job Description:
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day coaching and skill instruction for assigned student-athletes.
- Assist in planning and executing practices and competition strategies.
- Actively recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes at the regional and national levels.
- Coordinate team travel logistics including transportation, lodging, and meals.
- Oversee academic progress of student-athletes to ensure eligibility and support academic success.
- Assist with organizing travel to away meets.
- Maintain, inventory, and order team equipment and supplies.
- Foster positive relationships with admissions, financial aid, compliance, faculty, and other campus departments.
- Monitor budget and assist in the financial planning of the program.
- Other duties assigned.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Promote a positive team culture and serve as a role-model for student athletes.
- Enforce the NCAA, Conference Carolinas, and College compliance rules and standards.
- Demonstrated understanding of and adherence to NCAA and conference compliance rules.
- Strong ethical character and professionalism.
- Willingness to travel extensively and work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Coaching philosophy consistent with that of the Head Coach and the athletic department’s mission.
- Demonstrated concern for the character, academic, and athletic development of student-athletes.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Previous collegiate coaching or athletic experience preferred.
- Speed Power events preferred, but any event area expertise is encouraged to apply.
- Current CPR/AED certification.
