Position Summary:
The Assistant Track & Field Coach is responsible for assisting the head track and field coach in all aspects of the NCAA Division I Track & Field program. Coaches are expected to adhere to all University, CAA and NCAA regulations. This position demands a flexible schedule, as irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel, including overnight stays is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the instruction, development and training; tactically, technically, and athletically, of track & field athletes in the assigned position group
  • Motivate and inspire student-athletes to excel in the classroom and on the field; monitor athletes’ academic progress
  • Assist in coordination of practice and meet preparations
  • Assist the strength and conditioning coach and head coach in sport science management and implementation
  • Provide the head coach with post meet analysis and recommendations for enhanced athlete performance
  • Research, scout, evaluate and recommend prospective student-athletes to the head coach
  • Participate in the recruitment process, to include organizing efforts and communications, while operating within the scope of the department, CAA and NCAA regulations at all times
  • Collaborate with other departments and university staff in designing comprehensive and positive official and unofficial visits
  • Assist the head coach with a variety of administrative functions necessary for the effective management of the Track & Field program, such as coordinating travel, managing equipment/uniforms, and budgetary planning and implementation
  • Attend all necessary meetings with student-athletes and personnel, internally and externally on behalf of the university and program
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of appropriate public relations, fund-raising and promotional activities as necessary
  • Assist in promoting, organizing running camps and aid in fundraising efforts to improve the Track & Field program and athletic department
  • Build and maintain working relationships with coaches, administration, and staff, as well as other departments on campus, including, but not limited to; academic advising, residence life, admissions, sports information, campus recreation, compliance, athletic training, and strength and conditioning
  • Availability to work extended, evening or weekend hours, especially during season
  • Availability to travel, including overnight stays, is required
  • Exemplify the goals, values and objectives of the program
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times
  • Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; Title IX, HIPAA, and FERPA guidelines
  • Other job related duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or be assigned by the Head Track & Field Coach, or Director of Athletics at any time with or without notice

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • At least 1 years of college coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level desired
  • Experience competing as a collegiate level athlete, in Track & Field

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills are required
  • Ability to recruit and coach track and field athletes at a high level in a professional manner
  • Communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and attention to detail are essential
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Applications, the internet, and social media
  • Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with trustees, faculty, staff, students, high- level university officials and the public
  • Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people
  • Exercise independent judgment in complex and new situations
  • Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict deadlines
  • Detail-oriented and willing to work in a changing environment
