Job Description
The primary responsibility of this position is to instruct and develop student-athletes in alignment with the university’s academic mission. The assistant coach supports the head coach in administering various aspects of the athletic program. Ideal for individuals passionate about athletics and eager to contribution to a team environment without the commitment of a year-round role. The hours during the competitive season will vary based on team needs. Specific Responsibilities
Coaching/Teaching (80%)
- Instruct student athletes in the rules, techniques, and strategies of the sport during practices and competitive events.
- Provide direct instruction, feedback, and mentorship to enhance athletic performance, sportsmanship, and academic growth.
- Promote the physical and mental well-being of all student athletes.
Secondary Duties (20%)
At the discretion of the head coach, the assistant coach may perform a limited range of non-instructional duties. These duties are clearly secondary and comprise only a small portion of the overall role, ensuring that the primary focus remains on the direct instruction and development of student athletes. Secondary duties could include:
- Provide game day support for other athletic programs as assigned, which may include logistical assistance, bench support, or event coordination.
- Assist with the development and implementation of both off-campus and on-campus recruiting strategies to identify and attract qualified student athletes who demonstrate academic and athletic potential.
- Support the planning and execution of organized practices, training sessions, and game strategies.
- Participate in fundraising activities, promotional events, speaking engagements, and alumni outreach as approved by the program leadership.
