Within the framework of the Pfeiffer University’s mission of educating the whole person, the Assistant Cross Country and Track/Field Coach will fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the position. The selected candidate will be responsible for assisting the head coach in all facets of the program.
WORK YEAR OR POSITION TYPE:
This is a 12-month position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assisting with coaching and the administration of an NCAA Division III cross country and track & field programs; assisting with the design and implementation of training programs for cross country and track & field student-athletes; assist in the evaluation and recruiting of prospective student-athletes; assisting with team travel and budget management; and performing other duties as assigned by the Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach.
The assistant coach is also required to have a 2nd job duty with event management at the direction of the athletic department administrative staff. This will require supervision and management of athletic events/contests throughout the academic year.
Staff member is responsible for the monitoring an institutional facility for the purposes of safety and facility security. Coach supervision is to prevent any activity that is dangerous to a student-athlete or other students. This does not allow the supervisor to direct or provide instruction to student-athletes while supervising.
This position requires long periods of standing. You also have long periods of work outdoors and could be subject to heat and cold.
A bachelor’s degree is required and demonstrated collegiate running and/or coaching experience preferred. An understanding of track and field coaching philosophies, training strategies, practice planning, and recruiting at the NCAA level is preferred. Knowledge of the distance events and cross country is preferred. Possessing strong communication skills and the ability to successfully manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment is necessary.
