Job Description
Lee University is seeking a dynamic and motivated Assistant Track & Field Coach to join our coaching staff with a focus on jumps and combined events. The successful candidate will assist in the development and implementation of training programs for athletes competing in jumping events (long jump, triple jump, high jump, pole vault) and combined events (heptathlon, decathlon). This role requires a strong commitment to coaching excellence, athlete development, and contributing to the overall success of the track and field program.
Training and Coaching:
- Develop and implement effective training programs for athletes in jumps and combined events.
- Conduct individual and group coaching sessions, focusing on technique, strength, and conditioning.
- Analyze performance and provide constructive feedback to athletes to enhance their skills and performance.
Recruiting:
- Assist in recruiting talented athletes for the jumps and combined events.
- Evaluate potential recruits through scouting, attending meets, and evaluating performance data.
- Maintain relationships with high school and club coaches to facilitate recruitment.
Administrative Duties:
- Collaborate with the Head Coach to plan and execute practice schedules and meet strategies.
- Assist with the organization and management of meets, including travel arrangements and logistics.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with NCAA and conference rules and regulations.
Team Support:
- Foster a positive and supportive team environment that encourages athletes’ personal and athletic development.
- Promote academic success and personal growth among athletes.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to athletes in both athletic and academic pursuits.
Professional Development:
- Stay current with coaching techniques, sports science, and advancements in track and field.
- Attend coaching clinics, seminars, and other professional development opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Previous coaching experience, particularly with jumps and/or combined events at the collegiate level, is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of technique, training principles, and injury prevention in jumps and combined events.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with athletes, staff, and administrators.
