Description:
Under the general direction of the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, assist in all aspects of an NCAA Division III men’s & women’s Track and Field program including student-athlete recruitment, recruiting coordination, scheduling, team travel, scouting opponents, practice planning, equipment, marketing, and administration of the Track and Field program in full compliance with NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Role and responsibilities include but are not limited to –

  • Directly responsible to the Director of Track & Field/Cross Country
  • Organizes and conducts practice sessions within NCAA regulations for throws student-athletes
  • Responsible for developing training rules and conduct of athletes
  • Develop a work schedule (office hours) that makes him/her able to maintain a consistent operation of the sport program and adheres to “coaching hours” guidelines
  • Recruits student athletes within the guidelines of the NCAA, the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS), and Piedmont University
  • Recommends athletes for recognition, including NCAA, and CCS awards
  • Consistently monitors information regarding individual student athlete eligibility
  • Abides by all NCAA and CCS rules
  • Prepares inventory of supplies and equipment. Distributes, collects and maintains equipment on annual basis
  • Reports on needs and maintenance of facilities and equipment to the Director, Intercollegiate Athletics
  • Collaborates with the Director, Athletic Communications regarding team pictures, publicity, media guides and reporting statistics
  • Be capable of driving and transporting student-athletes to and from practice or competitions as required.
  • Assist the Director with planning and scheduling team travel
  • Assist with program operations as designated by the Director
  • Help coordinate fundraising efforts
  • Attends professional meetings, clinics, workshops to enhance professional development
  • Completes the NCAA rules test annually
  • Maintains current certification in CPR/AED training
  • May be asked to supervise athletic facilities for the purpose of safety and security

Minimum Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Coaching experience, recruiting experience and demonstrated knowledge of the rules and regulations of NCAA track & field in higher education
  • Experience with throws events
  • CPR and First Aid Certified

  • Demonstrated organizational and management ability
  • Strong ethical character and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven commitment to academic and athletic success of student athletes
  • Willingness to engage with alumni and the community
  • Thorough knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student athletes
