Job Description

 

The University of Lynchburg, located in central Virginia, is accepting applications for an assistant coach for our Distance programs. The successful candidate will report directly to the Director of Track and Field and will be responsible for assisting with leadership of the Distance program, recruitment and retention of student-athletes, scheduling and team travel, budget management, and equipment purchases. The candidate must have a commitment to upholding the academic and athletic integrity and mission of the University, compliance with NCAA, conference, and University regulations. Other job related duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

The University of Lynchburg is a highly successful NCAA Division III institution and charter member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. University of Lynchburg students have been recognized with 22 Academic All American awards since 1996, 343 all time All Americans and Seventeen different athletics programs have qualified for NCAA play over the past ten years. The Lynchburg athletics department has finished in the Top 25 in the Learfield Directors Cup each of the past two academic years. The University of Lynchburg is a private coeducational liberal arts institution located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains in central Virginia.

Required qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year institution Successful collegiate Track and Field and/or Cross Country experience is required. Strong interpersonal and communications skills; demonstrated organizational and management ability. The successful candidate must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the University.

Job Type: Part Time
Job Purpose: responsible for assisting with leadership to the Distance program, recruitment and retention of student-athletes, scheduling and team travel, budget management, and equipment purchases. The candidate must have a commitment to upholding the academic and athletic integrity and mission of the University, compliance with NCAA, conference, and University regulations.
Specific Job Duties: Instruction, mentoring, scouting, recruitment, travel planning, creating team experiences, building up injured athletes using coaching staff and AT staff.

Experience/Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and have the ability to understand, comprehend and follow directions
  • Must have good teamwork skills

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged standing/setting/wrist movement
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs
  • Ability to organize events/practices to effectively fit our team’s schedule
  • Ability to use google docs/sheets to organize recruiting
