Job Description

In coordination with the Head Track & Field / Cross Country Coach, serves as the Associate Head Coach of the men’s and women’s cross-country programs and coaches the distance events during indoor/outdoor track & field. Perform all the duties associated with being the head coach, including managing meets, events and practices, recruitment, budget management, supervision and mentoring of student-athletes, scheduling, etc. Will follow the University’s best practices to build and support student academic success and retention and assist in meeting strategic objectives for persistence and timely graduation of student-athletes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists the head coach with the daily operation of the track and field/ cross country program.
  • Teaches skills and strategies.
  • Plays an active part in coordinating with the Head Track and Field Coach on an annual recruiting plan to meet cross country and track & field roster goals and attain all teams’ full growth potential.
  • Actively participates in regional and national professional coaches’ organizations, increasing the representation of the University’s program interests in recommended legislation to the NCAA.


  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Demonstrated at least one year of assistant or head coaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Must have experience in competing or coaching Cross Country or Distance (800M – 10,000M)
  • Successful experience in recruiting and retaining student-athletes.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which include evenings and weekends. Local and regional travel required.
  • Works well with men and women from diverse backgrounds.
  • Motor vehicle license required.
