Job Description

The associate head coach position reports to and provides assistance to the director of track and field / cross country. This position will be in charge of cross country / distance with oversight by the director of track and field / cross country including practice, meets, and recruitment. This position is integral to the development of the individual student-athlete both mentally and physically. This position provides teaching and mentoring to team members to drive them to perform at their highest. This position is also critical to creating a sense of camaraderie and a presence in the community utilizing the coaches and the student-athletes.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  1. Mentoring, teaching and training student-athletes in cross country and distance running. Coaching distance runners in track and field.
  2. Recruiting student-athletes.
  3. Coordinate practice, travel and meet schedules for cross country in coordination with the Athletics Facilities staff and student-athlete class schedules.
  4. Manage compliance logs and other required paperwork based on NCAA and conference requirements. Ensure all requirements are met on a timely basis.
  5. Monitor, and report to the director of track & field / cross country, academic performance of student-athletes through collaboration with Athletics Academics staff.
  6. Work with the director of track & field / cross country and other staff members to create a culture of winning and success for the cross country and track and field program.
  7. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of cross country and distance running.
  • Previous experience coaching cross country and distance runners in track and field.
  • Ability to develop effective training programs for student-athletes to develop to highest potential.
  • Ability to drive culture based on the director of track and field / cross country’s vision.
  • Ability to work nights/weekends and required to travel for recruiting and competition.
