Job Description

 

The Graduate Assistant Coach assists the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country in providing leadership for a NCAA Division I Cross Country / Track & Field Program. Assists with all aspects of the program and plays an integral part in the day-to-day student-athlete coaching support, administrative responsibilities, daily team training, evaluation and recruitment of student-athletes, academic monitoring, and skill development. This position must work within PFW, Horizon League, and NCAA guidelines to provide student-athletes an exceptional collegiate experience while competing for championships.

**This position is hiring a coach with specialties in Distance OR Combined Events**

Job Duties:

  • Assists the Director in providing leadership for a NCAA Division I Cross Country / Track & Field Program along with the overall coaching, management, and administration of the program.
  • Recruit and retain student-athletes.
  • Assist with meet management of PFW’s home cross country meet and home track & field meet.
  • Adhere to and enforce all policies and procedures of the department and university as well as the rules and regulations of the Horizon League and NCAA.
  • Travel Coordination: Help with team itineraries, meals, practice schedules and other related requirements for travel.
  • Track countable athletic related activities through SPRY
  • Assist with team community service events and assist with team fundraising.
  • Participate in University, civic, and public relations activities for promotion of the sport.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Strong emphasis on recruiting
  • Identifying and evaluating potential student-athletes.
  • Building relationships with high school coaches and athletes.
  • Organizing recruiting events and visits.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Must be highly dependable, flexible, and available to work evenings and weekends
  • Ability to interact professionally with the public
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time both indoors and outdoors
  • Work effectively as a team member

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Previous coaching experience
  • Former student-athlete that competed in the NCAA at the Division 1, 2 or 3 level(s) and/or NAIA
