The Smith College Track & Field and Cross Country program is recruiting Graduate Assistant Coaches for the 2025-26 academic year. The positions are linked with a two year Masters of Science in Exercise and Sports Studies. Candidates act as assistant coaches while engaged in full-time, in person learning tailored to training NCAA coaches. The ESS curriculum includes both applied (Recruiting, Administration, etc.) as well as science focused courses (Biomechanics, Sport Psychology, etc) to prepare candidates for careers in collegiate coaching.
The priority deadline for applying to the program with consideration for financial aid is March 1, 2025, but candidates will be considered on a rolling basis. Partial tuition remission and a yearly stipend are provided to accepted candidates.
Candidate Qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree, required
- Related coaching/professional experience, or a combination of experiences leading to similar qualification, required
- Excellent communication skills
- Time-management skills and the flexibility to adapt to daily changes
- A strong, intrinsic desire to grow athletes into responsible, resilient, hard working adults, through the process of training, competing, and chasing championships.
Sport-Specific Responsibilities may include:
- Assisting or leading event-area practices
- Assisting the Head Coach with practice and meet organization
- Recruiting potential student-athletes
- Organizing travel logistics and itineraries
- Assisting with home meet organization, and opportunities to serve as Meet Director for high school meets hosted at facility.
