Job Description

Michigan Technological University invites applications for the Graduate Assistant Coach of Men’s and Women’s Track & Field. The GA will assist the head coach in all aspects of the NCAA Division II Track & Field programs, coaching/teaching, team travel, daily practice sessions, community service, academic enrichment, counseling of students, and other duties assigned by the Athletic Administration. The position requires an understanding of the role of intercollegiate athletics in a highly competitive academic environment. Requires night and weekend work, and overnight travel to away games and recruiting tournaments. The graduate assistant coach takes appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College’s efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment. Compensation for the position is a graduate tuition scholarship covering up to 9 credits and a minimum stipend of $3,000 per semester. Renewal will be determined following each academic semester.

Required Education, Certifications, Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree
Experience in sprints as a collegiate coach or athlete

Desirable Education and/or Experience:
Knowledge of NCAA rules
NSCA/CSCS certification
Experience in horizontal/vertical jumps or as a collegiate coach or athlete

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent organizational and administrative skills
Demonstrated excellent decision-making capabilities
Demonstrated commitment to comply to all NCAA rules and regulations
Ability to lead, teach and mentor others

Valid driver’s license
Ability and willingness to travel
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.
