Job Description

This position reports directly to the Director of Track and Field, under the direction of the Director of Athletics.

We are dedicated to providing graduate assistants with meaningful mentorship, hands-on coaching experience, and professional development opportunities designed to prepare them for successful careers as collegiate coaches.

Essential Functions:

Recruiting: Identify and evaluate outstanding student-athlete candidates for the Illinois Wesleyan cross country and track & field programs. Develop meaningful relationships with prospective student-athletes, their parents/guardians, high school and club coaches, teachers, alumni, and other key influencers. Organize, coordinate, and assist with all recruiting tasks, including correspondence through mail, email, phone, social media, and other platforms. Maintain an accurate recruiting database and conduct necessary research for scouting reports. Work collaboratively with the Office of Admission on all recruiting efforts.

Compliance Oversight: Maintain a current and thorough working knowledge of NCAA, CCIW, and institutional rules, and actively assist in ensuring full adherence to all regulations.

Sport Teaching & Coaching Actively: assist the Event Coach in all phases of coaching during both the cross country season and the track & field season. This includes planning and conducting organized practice sessions, developing a strong team culture within the program, department, and University, and modeling appropriate sportsmanship, competitiveness, and humility.

Program Support & Student-Athlete Development Assist with travel arrangements for competitions and meets. Conduct weekly check-ins with student-athletes to support their academic, athletic, and personal development.
