Washburn University, an NCAA DII and MIAA Conference member, is excited to invite applications for the position of Graduate Assistant/Part-Time Assistant Cross Country and Track & Field Coach. You will assist the Head Cross Country/Assistant Track Coach with daily practices for the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country team, as well as distance runners during the track season.

Work Hours: 10-20 hours per week. Practice times can vary depending on the season and athlete class schedule, but we ask that you are able to travel and work variable hours, including nights and weekends for some competitions.
Responsibilities:
- Assist and lead daily training sessions for the Mid-Distance and Distance events, including warm-up routines, technical drills and aid in the strength program.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and feedback to athletes during training and at competitions.
- Motivate athletes to achieve their goals in a supportive and positive environment.
- Assist with recruiting student-athletes involved in Mid/Distance events.
- Work with other coaches, staff, and administrators to ensure the success of the XC/track and field program.
- Provide mentorship and support for student-athletes, focusing on their academic, athletic, and personal development.
- Driving vans for practice and competition on a daily basis.
- Ensure compliance with all NCAA, MIAA Conference, and Washburn policies and regulations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Coaching and/or personal athletic experience in Cross Country and Middle Distance and/or Distance Events.
- Hold a valid driver’s license and be eligible to be insured by the university’s auto insurance carrier to drive team vans for practice and competitions when needed.
Compensation:
This position offers a yearly stipend of $7,000, along with the possibility to work within the athletic department for an additionally hourly wage. This position can be a part time Assistant Coach, or Graduate Assistant Position. In the case of a graduate assistant, there is also a tuition stipend for Grad Classes.
