Job Description

 

Anderson University’s Athletic Department invites applications for the Head Coach of Track & Field. Anderson University is an innovative, entrepreneurial, premier comprehensive, liberal arts university affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention. The Head Coach of Track & Field reports directly to the Director of Cross Country/Track and Field. Duties include, but are not limited to, working primarily with jumps and combined event athletes; recruit possible students/athletes to build program; follow up on class work and grades with students; coach event groups at practice and competitions; teach athletes new concepts and ideas; assist with practice/practice preparation; assist with meet/meets preparation; assist with equipment. Additional administrative responsibilities include managing the departmental budget, game preparations, community and public relations, fundraising, and other recordkeeping and documentation duties as needed.

Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University. Current first aid and CPR certification is required. Track and field experience is required. Candidate must have a valid driver’s license. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to work well within a team, and good organizational skills are required.

Detailed Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assigned duties from the Director of Athletics and Director of Track & Field

  • Work primarily with Jumps and Multi’s
  • Recruit possible Anderson student-athletes to build all-around program
  • Follow up on class work and grades with students
  • Coach event(s) group(s) at practice and competitions
  • Teach athletes new concepts and ideas
  • Assist with practice/practice preparation
  • Assist with meets/meet preparation
  • Assist with equipment preparation/inventory
  • Position may require working with sports camps as needed.
  • May require driving a University vehicle on and off campus to transport students and/or equipment for participation in organized athletics events while conducting University business
  • Require valid US driver’s license and must have in possession while driving
  • If expected to operate a 15-passenger vehicle, must complete a training session with Facility Services prior to operating the vehicle

  • Must comply with all university and department policies and procedures

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Current first aid and CPR certification.

Experience:

Collegiate track and field/cross country experience is preferred in the jumping & multi events. Know and understand proper rules, regulations, and officiating regarding track and field/cross country as well as recruiting and ethics. Must be able to work with students and teach students. Knowledge of computers and technology is a must.
