Job Description

Position Title: Head Women’s Track and Field Coach

Department: Athletics

Type of Position: Full Time

Job Summary: The Head Women’s Track and Field Coach is responsible for administering all aspects of the NCAA Division II women’s indoor and outdoor track and field program including but not limited to planning all aspects of the program; personnel training and supervision; fiscal management; practice and competition supervision, scheduling, and preparation; summer camps and clinics; fund raising; recruiting; monitoring academic progress of student-athlete through graduation; monitoring academic and disciplinary standing of student-athletes; establishing positive public relations with support staff, community members, media, and alumni; and fulfilling other duties as they arise or as they are assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Specific Job Expectations
The Head Women’s Track and Field Coach is:
• Responsible for being thoroughly familiar with and complying with all ESU Athletic Department, university, PSAC, NCAA, and sport-specific governing rules, policies, and procedures and disseminating such information to assistant coaches and student-athletes;
• Responsible for passing the NCAA coaches’ certification exam no later than August 1 of each year and successfully completing all training mandating by the NCAA and ESU;
• Responsible for assisting with the preparation of and adherence to deadlines and specific dates for the timely completion of all administrative forms and related materials.
• Responsible for submitting an annual sport plan and competition/practice reports to the Director of Athletics by the first of each month.
• Responsible for providing the Director of Athletics with a hard copy of all necessary compliance and internal operations for by the dates requested.
• Responsible for arranging with the Director of Athletics the use of appropriate facilities and keeping appropriate individuals informed of the condition of equipment and facilities.
• Responsible for providing in cooperation with facility management a safe environment for all practices, scrimmages, competitions, and events related to the program.
• Responsible for providing instruction and training necessary to create skills, techniques, and physical conditioning sufficient to enable each student-athlete to compete safely and competently.
• Responsible for providing on-site supervision during all practices, competitions, and events related to the women’s track and field program.
• Responsible for providing supervision when using residence halls during pre-season training and non-session breaks.
• Responsible for working with the equipment manager to distribute inventory, maintain, collect, and store equipment and uniforms used within the women’s track and field program.
• Responsible for cooperating with the athletic training staff to ensure student-athletes have returned all necessary forms to be eligible to practice and compete.
• Responsible for reporting all student-athlete injuries to the athletic training staff within 24 hours of the injury (immediately for serious injuries).
• Responsible for communicating and cooperating with the sports information director to ensure appropriate media coverage of student-athletes and team, including the timely production of print materials and media releases.
• Responsible for providing appropriate guidance, instruction, training, and supervision of all personnel associated with the women’s track and field program.
• Responsible for completing annual written performance appraisals of assistant coaches and providing those appraisals to the Director of Athletics.
• Responsible for submitting, in advance, his or her monthly and annual work schedule for approval by the Director of Athletics.
• Responsible for abiding by the Athletic Department Request to Work Overtime Policy.
• Responsible for abiding by the Athletic Department Guidelines for Hiring Volunteer Coaches.
• Responsible for keeping the Director of Athletics informed of all events and activities, whether positive or negative, surrounding the women’s track and field program in a timely manner.
• Responsible for exhibiting a high level of expertise in track and field events and to seek self-improvement by attending clinics, workshops, seminars, and other related professional development programs.
• Responsible for communicating and cooperating with the ESU Faculty Athletics Representative.
• Responsible for assisting the Athletics Academic Coordinator in the monitoring and advising of the women’s track and field student-athletes’ academic progress.
• Responsible for treating the academic achievement and requirements necessary for progress toward a degree as a matter of the highest priority for the women’s track and field student-athletes.
• Responsible for assisting the Director of Athletics in the scheduling details of events related to the women’s track and field program to include, but not limited to Senior, Parents/Family, and Alumni celebrations.
• Responsible for providing the Director of Athletics with practice, competition, and other team activity schedules during mid-term and final examination periods for approval.
• Stroudsburg University in accordance with NCAA, PSAC, and ESU policies.
• Responsible for utilizing the Athletic Department recruiting form for recruiting documentation.
• Responsible for submitting all recruiting documentation to the athletic administration within 24 hours of the request.
• Responsible for demonstrating a commitment to recruiting student-athletes of diverse backgrounds.
• Responsible for having an appropriate number of student-athletes on the women’s track and field team as dictated by department policy.
• Responsible for attending and participating in all Athletic Department staff meetings and other Athletic Department sponsored activities to include but not limited to the Hall of Fame Banquet, Academic Awards Ceremony, Warrior Luncheon, Golf Tournament, and Auction.
• Responsible for taking an active part and assisting the Director of Athletics with department fund raising activities.
• Responsible for fund raising to enhance the ESU women’s track and field grants-in-aid budget (i.e., athletic scholarships).
• Responsible for providing to the Director of Athletics a completed fund raising form for approval prior to solicitation.
• Responsible for representing the university on the highest professional level with appropriate dress, sportsmanship, etiquette, dignity, integrity, strength of character while exhibiting ethical behavior.
• Responsible for abiding by policies and procedures for all aspects of athletics finances (e.g., purchasing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, petty cash, camps and clinics, fund raising, handling of receipts for deposits or credits, etc.).
• Responsible for self-reporting NCAA, PSAC, and ESU violations to the Director of Athletics and Compliance Officer when the coach has actual knowledge of a violation.
• Responsible for utilizing official department designee(s) for communication between institutional offices (e.g., Admissions, Financial Aid, Residence Life, Dining Services, Computing Services, Facilities Management, etc.).
• Responsible for abiding by the Code of Conduct for Coaches found in the Athletic Department Policies and Procedures Manual.
• Responsible for earning and sustaining the goodwill of the various publics, such as community, student body, faculty/staff, parents, alumni, and media.
• Responsible for implementing and participating with the women’s track and field team in a variety of community service and community engagement projects.
• Responsible for actively involving oneself in other areas of the university by serving on campus committees; attending other university events, activities, and meetings; etc.
• Responsible for managing the activities of the women’s track and field team in a fair, consistent, reasonable, honest, efficient, ethical, professional, and financially responsible manner.
• Responsible for participating in resolution of student-athlete complaints under the Athletic Department student complaint resolution procedure.
• Responsible for treating opposing coaches, official, students, and colleagues with respect and dignity.
• Responsible for fostering positive growth and development for student-athletes while encouraging then to have fun in the sport of women’s track and field.
• Responsible for creating and conducting an annual summer women’s track and field camp and other camps, clinics, and events, as feasible.
• Responsible for recognizing outstanding individual or combined efforts and accomplishments in women’s track and field competition, in the classroom, or in the community.
• Responsible for determining, within the scope of the Athletic Department policies and procedures, which women’s track and field team members will receive post-season awards and confer them at the annual Athletic Department and/or university-sponsored awards programs.
• Responsible for providing the Director of Athletics at the conclusion of the women’s track and field season with an annual season-ending report, which should include but not be limited to the following:
a. The number of participants at the start and end of season,
b. Individual and team academic and athletic accomplishments and highlights,
c. Community service and community engagement activities the wrestling team and coaches have implemented,
d. Recommendations for future major equipment needs,
e. Recommendations for facility improvements,
f. Recommendations for women’s track and field program improvements,
g. Update on the status of recruiting student-athletes for the following season, and
h. Future goals for the women’s track and field coaches and the women’s track and field program.

Work Schedule: Determined based on the season

Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience, plus excellent benefits. Final selection will be based upon a successful interview and background check. All candidates must furnish proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. at the time of employment.

Required Qualifications:
A Bachelors Degree is required.

A thorough knowledge of and commitment to compliance with the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the NCAA, PSAC, ESU, and other applicable affiliations is required, Successful experience in coaching track and field as a head coach or assistant coach on the intercollegiate level is required or an equivalent combination and training that may include successful professional, high school, or club coaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree is preferred.

Successful experience in coaching women’s track and field preferred.

**Preferred qualifications may be used to further reduce the pool of applicants to those who are most highly qualified.
