Job Description

 

San Diego Mesa College Track and Field program is seeking to hire a Jumps Coach. The Jumps coach reports directly to the Director of Men’s & Women’s Track and Cross-Country Coach. The qualified candidate must be available to coach 5 days a week during the spring and 3 days per week in the off season (summer, fall, winter), and must have availability during the week and weekends for travel to competitions in the spring.

Must have knowledge of:

  • An understanding of the community college environment and mission and their impact on the future success of student athletes.
  • Experience and ability to develop a competitive Jumps program (High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump).
  • Knowledge of sprint technique and development.
  • Recruitment strategies
  • Science Driven and Athlete Centered Training

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Planning and implementation of practices and competition strategies.
  • Personalized coaching that meets the individual needs of each athlete.
  • Recruitment of student athletes via phone, e-mail, on-campus visits, and attending high school meets.
  • Participate and lead in sport specific fund raising strategies.
  • Adhere to school policies and procedures.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge, commitment and adherence to NCAA, 3C2A and PCAC conference rules and regulations.
  • Able to transport student athletes to competitions in 12 passenger school vans.
  • Collaborate with Men’s and Women’s Sprints Coach in programming training for developing jumpers and sprinters.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Meets minimum qualifications for coaches per California Community College Chancellors Office (Link)
  • Master’s Degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or Physical Education or Any degree in any discipline plus professional experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of coaching Jumps (High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump) at the high school, club or collegiate level).
