Job Description

Nebraska Wesleyan University seeks a dedicated and energetic Assistant Coach for Cross Country and Distance. This part-time position works directly with the Head Cross Country and Distance Coach along with the Director of XC / Track and Field to support the development and administration of our NCAA Division III men’s and women’s programs. The successful candidate will contribute to all aspects of a competitive collegiate team, consistent with the philosophy and policies of NWU, the American Rivers Conference, and the NCAA.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the development, safety, and success of student-athletes.
• Assist in daily coaching and practice sessions for cross country and distance track.
• Collaborate on planning and promoting a competitive NCAA Division III program.
• Recruit academically and athletically talented student-athletes.
• Lead the management and creative development of team social media accounts to promote the program, highlight student-athletes, and increase public engagement.
• Maintain a thorough knowledge of and compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional rules.
• Contribute to fundraising, alumni outreach, and program promotion.
• Assist with organizing team travel, meet-day logistics, and occasional team events.
• Support and help lead team camps and clinics.
• Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
• Collegiate-level coaching or competitive experience in cross country/track and field.
• Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Ability to effectively recruit and mentor a diverse group of student-athletes.
• Familiarity with performance tools such as a stopwatch, metric wheel, and video analysis via iPhone or similar.
• Availability for flexible hours including weekends, evenings, and travel.
