Establishing Age Eligibility Standards in NCAA Division I Track & Field and Cross Country

Current Legislative Text:
12.6.3.2.1.4 Track and Field and Cross Country. A student-athlete who has participated in organized competition after the one-year time period (the next opportunity to enroll after one calendar year has elapsed) and before full-time collegiate enrollment during a cross country, indoor track and field, or outdoor track and field season (as opposed to general road racing events) shall be charged with a season of competition in the sport in which the student-athlete has participated for each calendar year after the one-year time period in which the student-athlete participated in organized competition.

12.6.3.2.1.4 Track and Field and Cross Country. A student-athlete shall be charged with a season of competition in the sport (cross country, indoor track and field, or outdoor track and field) the student-athlete has participated in during each 12-month period following their 20th birthday and prior to initial full-time enrollment in a collegiate institution. Participation in organized competition during time spent on an official religious mission, in the armed services or with recognized foreign aid services of the U.S. government shall be excepted.

Division I Cross Country Amended and Approved Proposal:
12.6.3.2.1.4 Track and Field and Cross Country. A student-athlete shall be charged with a season of competition in the sport (cross country, indoor track and field, or outdoor track and field) during each 12-month period starting August 1st of the year of their 20th birthday and prior to initial full-time enrollment in a collegiate institution. Participation in organized competition during time spent on an official religious mission, in the armed services or with recognized foreign aid services of the U.S. government shall be exempt.

Division I Track and Field Amended and Approved Proposal:
12.6.3.2.1.4 Track and Field and Cross Country.
