Voluntary Athletically Related Activites

Intent: To amend NCAA bylaws pertaining to Out-of-Season Athletically Related Activities to allow an institution’s coach access to conditioning information and reports to ensure student-athlete’s safety and well-being.

Bylaws:

17.6.6 Out-of-Season Athletically Related Activities. Student-athletes and members of the coaching staff shall not engage in countable athletically related activities outside the institution’s declared playing season per Bylaw 17.6.1 except as permitted in Bylaw 17.1.7.2. 17.6.6.1 Summer Practice. Practice that is organized or financially supported by a member institution shall be prohibited during the summer unless specifically authorized in the bylaws (e.g., foreign tour) or through official interpretations. An institution may pay fees associated with the use of institutional practice and competition facilities by student-athletes engaged in voluntary athletically related activities in their sport. 17.6.6.2 Vacation Period and Summer-Workout Sessions. A coach may participate in individual in-person or virtual workout sessions and/or wellness checks with student-athletes from the coach’s team during any institutional vacation period and/or the summer, provided the request for such assistance is initiated by the student-athlete.
