Position Overview
SPIRE Academy, one of the nation’s premier high-performance athletic boarding schools. Student-Athletes aim is to continue sports at the next level in college. This one-year fellowship is designed for emerging coaches who want to develop under an elite staff while gaining hands-on experience in coaching, meet operations, recruiting, performance systems, and athlete development. This fellowship is intentionally structured as a pipeline to a full-time coaching role at SPIRE or any other collegiate institution, contingent on performance and program needs.
Responsibilities:
Coaching & Athlete Development
- Assist with planning and executing daily throws training (shot, discus, hammer, weight; javelin optional).
- Provide technical feedback, video analysis, and individualized instruction.
- Support practice setup, event management, and athlete warm-ups.
- Assist with athlete evaluations and long-term development planning.
Program Operations & Meet Management
- Support preparation of throwing areas and equipment.
- Help coordinate team travel, transportation, and athlete supervision.
Recruiting & Camps
- Assist with identification and communication with prospective student-athletes.
- Participate in SPIRE camps, clinics, and outreach events.
- Engage in college placement support for SPIRE throws athletes.
Culture, Academics & Communication
- Uphold SPIRE’s academic, athletic, and character standards.
- Assist with academic progress checks in coordination with the academic team.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, families, and staff.
Qualifications
- Experience coaching multiple throwing events.
- Collegiate participation experience and experience working with high school athletes
- Interest in long-term coaching or performance career.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work evenings/weekends and travel as required.
- Must pass a background check and be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Valid driver’s license.

Compensation & Benefits
- $15K stipend (1 Year appt. July 2026-July 2027)
