Job Description

Strategically plan appropriate training programs for vertical jumps and/or combined events.

Implement and incorporate quality plans for practice sessions and competition while ensuring that all appropriate safety guidelines and standards are maintained.

Scout and recruit quality student-athletes under the guidance and direction of the head coach and coordinate all recruiting activities with the head coach/director and with appropriate departmental personnel.

Attend staff meetings and implement strategies resulting from these meetings.

Work collectively with the strength and conditioning coach to insure adequate strength components are incorporated and congruent with training.

Work diligently with the athletic training staff to insure the well-being of all student-athletes.

Participate in departmental activities as appropriate.

Perform special duties as assigned by the head coach and/or Director of Track and Field.

Represents the sports program to various institutional programs and externally to the media, funding agencies, students, parents, faculty and the general public.

Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and student-athletes having a range of backgrounds, interests and perspectives.

The Volunteer Assistant Men’s & Women’s Track Coach (Vertical Jumps/Combined Events) is responsible for the on-field coaching and recruitment of academically-qualified student athletes for a NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Track and Field program, within the guidelines, rules and regulations of Drake University, the NCAA and the Missouri Valley Conference.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree
• Collegiate athletic experience
• Ability to pass NCAA coaches’ recruiting exam
• Valid state issued driver’s license
• CPR and First Aid certification

Preferred Qualifications
• Collegiate playing and/or coaching experience
• Vertical Jumps/Combined Events experience
• Applicable USTFCCCA/USATF coaches’ education certificate(s)
• Minimum of two years of track and field coaching experience

Time Commitment & Compensation:
Candidates are expected to commit up to 6-12 hours per week. This includes practice sessions, office hours and travel for competition (extended hours may be necessary). Drake University realizes that candidates may have additional school and job constraints; these conflicts will be addressed on a case-by-case basis. This is a volunteer position. Starting on or before October 19, 2020.
