Job Description

 

The Grand Valley State University Track & Field Program is looking for a highly motivated and knowledgeable volunteer assistant coach to help with Sprints & Hurdles. Candidates should understand that coaching at the collegiate level involves flexibility of hours that may include multiple days during the week & weekends for competitions and regular weekday availability in late afternoon/early evening for practices. Depending on qualifications and schedule flexibility of candidate, some part-time pay may be available.

Qualifications

  • General knowledge of sprint and/or hurdle event areas.
  • Effective communication, teaching, and leadership skills.
  • Preference given for Bachelor’s degree, but not required.
  • Good vehicle driving record & skills.
  • Flexibility of schedule for competitions and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily practices: set up/put away equipment, provide technical instruction/feedback to athletes, & other general practice duties.
  • Assist with coaching at competitions:
    – Home: Hosting & coaching responsibilities as assigned.
    – Away: Occasional operation of vehicle with athletes, coaching, & other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Comply with all NCAA, GLIAC, and GVSU rules and policies.
  • Occasional help with fundraising opportunities, as needed.
  • Occasional help with recruiting potential student-athletes, as available.
