Muhlenberg College, a Division III institution and a member of the Centennial Conference is seeking applications for a full-time Assistant Track & Field Coach. Responsibilities include assisting the head coach in all phases of the program within the college, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.

Schedule & Benefits: This is a full-time, year-round position based on campus in Allentown, PA with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024. Partial remote work available during off-peak times. Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Under the general direction of the head coach, provide leadership and support to all facets of the program in advancing the mission of the College and Athletics department.
  • Support the head coach in administering a competitive NCAA Division III program in accordance with college, NCAA, and Centennial Conference policies.
  • Coach, motivate, counsel, and support student-athletes in realizing their potential for personal growth and development as students, athletes, and members of the Muhlenberg campus community.
  • Attend practices, training sessions, team meetings, and contests (home and away).
  • Establish and meet annual recruitment goals, working with the head coach and Assistant Director of Athletics for Recruitment and Retention to ensure long term recruiting goals are being achieved.
  • Regular communication with the assistant director of athletics for recruitment and retention, and understanding of NCAA and admissions rules and regulations.
  • Maintain recruiting software, monitor the various recruiting services, and analyze national recruiting trends and research/review each area to support recruiting goals.
  • Oversee all on-campus recruiting including correspondence with recruits.
  • Promote strong parent, alumni, and community relations.
  • In collaboration with the Head Coach, develop an annual professional development plan that will ensure awareness of trends, best practices, new information, etc. related to athletics, recreation, student development, leadership and diversity and inclusion practices and skills.
  • Lead and participate in Divisional and College-wide committees and initiatives.
  • Assist in hiring, mentoring and supervising part-time assistant coaches.
  • Actively participate in fundraising activities in support of the College and Muhlenberg Athletics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

While no one person may possess all the qualifications listed below, the ideal candidate will have many of the following professional experiences and characteristics:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Related professional experience, or a combination of professional and athletic experience leading to a similar qualification.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the Division III philosophy of athletics and adherence to NCAA regulations regarding operation of athletic programs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and engage with a varied audience, including but not limited to students, parents, College employees, alumni, and community relations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
  • Ability to travel and adapt to varying schedules, including evening and weekend hours, in accordance with the needs of the team.
  • Successful completion of background checks including but not limited to child abuse clearance, education verification, criminal background checks, and driving record.
