Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Athletic Director, the Assistant Coach will serve as a member of the Department of Athletics and be responsible for the administration of all aspects relating to a positive and beneficial intercollegiate athletics experience for student-athletes. Must be available nights and weekend hours. This position will work directly with the men’s and women’s track and field programs in programming and recruiting(sprints and jumps), as well as other duties assigned by the head coach.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

The Assistant Coach at Fort Lewis College, an NCAA Division II institution in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, is responsible for assisting all aspects of an athletically competitive track & field program, including, but not limited to:

  • Organizing and conducting skill instruction, practice, and training schedules for the men’s and women’s sprints and jumps.
  • Effectively manage relationships with student-athletes, coaches and the broader campus community
  • Strategize and meet recruiting goals along with all other aspects of the evaluation of prospective student-athletes
  • Provide appropriate leadership in practice and competitive environments
  • Conduct sound fiscal management and participate in fundraising activities supporting the program
  • Ensure a quality student-athlete experience through community engagement, campus involvement, and competitive achievement
  • Monitor academic and disciplinary standing of student-athletes
  • Establish positive relationships with support staff
  • Assist in planning as well as participate in cross country / track and field camps and clinics
  • Represent the cross country and track and field program as designated by the head coach
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive school vehicles per board policy (including the occasional driving for the cross country programs).
  • Ability to drive up to 15 passenger van/coach bus
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • One year experience coaching the sport required
  • Experience at the NCAA DII level preferred
