Job Description

 

Primary Purpose of This Job

The Assistant Coach will be responsible for the weekly training of the members of the team competing in throwing events.

Essential Functions

  • Abide by the rules and regulations established by the NCAA, Middle Athletic Conference, and the University.
  • Assist in providing leadership and support in planning, developing and implementing an instructional program in the sport as assigned by the Coach.
  • Assist in fostering a climate conducive to learning.
  • Maintain knowledge of coaching strategies.
  • Provide instruction to student-athletes on the fundamentals, details and strategies of the sport as assigned by the Coach.
  • Assist with pre-post workouts.
  • Assist with the recruitment of potential student athletes.
  • Maintain and upgrade professional skills in order to improve instructions for students.

Related Duties

  • Assist to resolve game management and/or set-up issues for home events.
  • Assist with game management set-up and site supervision.
  • Evening and weekend hours to include team travel.
  • Uphold and promote the Mission and Philosophy of the University and the Sisters of Mercy.
  • Preserve honesty and integrity in the professional affairs of the University; adhere to high standards of ethical practices and conduct.

Requirements

Equivalent combinations of education, licenses, certifications and/or experience may be considered.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university

Experience

  • Prior playing or coaching experience at the college, university, or professional level.
  • Demonstrated athletic leadership experience
  • Strong administrative, managerial, and interpersonal skills

  • None

  • Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
  • A strong commitment to the Student-Athlete concept
