FDU Cross Country and Track & Field is hiring an Assistant Coach to lead recruiting and to help develop our distance and cross country group. We have a roster of nearly 80 men and women that is growing, and this hire will play a direct part in that growth. You’ll work closely with the Head Coach through cross country, indoor, and outdoor seasons. You’ll be a visible part of FDU Athletics on campus, at meets, and on the road.
What You’ll Do

Recruiting

  • Lead the search for distance and cross country prospects who can compete at the Division I level and do well in the classroom.
  • Handle recruits from first contact to commitment: evaluations, communication, campus visits, and follow-up.
  • Build a strong network of high school and club coaches across New Jersey, New York, and the wider Northeast.
    Help plan roster needs as the women’s program grows.

Coaching

  • Plan and run training for distance and cross country athletes, from 1500m and up, including steeplechase.
  • Coach at daily practices and at competitions. Teach pacing, race strategy, and smart training habits.
  • Track athlete progress and adjust training in coordination with the Head Coach.

Athlete Support

  • Mentor student-athletes from their first year through graduation.
  • Work with academic advisors, sports medicine, and strength staff to keep athletes healthy, eligible, and on track.
  • Help build a team culture based on accountability, communication, and mutual respect.

Operations and Compliance

  • Follow all NCAA and Northeast Conference rules, especially recruiting rules.
  • Assist with travel, meet logistics, and program administration as needed.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Coaching experience at the college, high school, or club level
  • **Preferred: a distance or cross country specialist** who has helped athletes improve in events from 1500m and up
  • Recruiting experience, or a clear drive and ability to recruit well
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules; must pass the NCAA recruiting certification exam
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel, including nights and weekends
  • Collegiate distance running experience is a plus
